Three Innovative Products That Are Tackling Water Waste
Water usage in businesses is vast, whether it be an office full of workers that use water for drinks and in the bathroom, or whether it is used agriculturally to grow crops. A statistic that explains the shocking quantities involved, is that it takes 2000 litres of water over the production process of one cotton t-shirt (Waterwise). Following this, the average office building uses 50 litres of water per person per day (South Staffs Water). There are many different ways that businesses can keep on top of their water usage though, which will save both energy and money for the business.
Aquacica: The Water Saving LED Showerhead
A very simple idea that epitomizes water wastage in showers is Aquacica’s innovative LED shower head. It lights up green, amber or red depending on the amount of time you have spent in the shower. This enables the user to see whether they are using more water than the proven optimal amount, which is up after 7 minutes. Aquacica claim that the product can save 36 litres per shower and over 52,000 litres per year.
Altered: The Sink Faucet That Can Use 98% Less Water
Altered, founded by Johan Nihlén, are the creators of the ingenious Nozzle Dual Flow Pro sink faucet. It has a 30-second installation process and after this you can expect your water waste to be cut by up to 98%, however it has been proved that the product is still as hygienic as the more traditional faucet. It is produced with businesses in mind, as it can save a business of 100 employees between 470,000-570,000 litres of water a year, proving there will be a return on investment. Scale these products over medium and large businesses across the country, with hundreds of employees, and you can see how the product can save you large quantities of water and money.
Orbital Systems: The First Digital Recirculating Shower System
Founded by Mehrdad Mahdjoubi, Orbital Systems are the manufacturers of the OAS shower system. The OAS shower system is the first digital recirculating shower system that continuously purifies water and recycles it back to the showerhead. The product contains smart sensors that analyse water 20 times per second, disposing of harmful particles and bacteria. It has been proved to save up to 90% on water and 80% on energy, something you can monitor from your own phone.
Knowledge surrounding water efficiency exists, but it is not used effectively. Efficiency in businesses is one area where knowledge needs to be applied further, as not enough is done to expose employees to the environmental and monetary cost of wastage. As pointed out already, there are products on the market that are already working towards this, reducing the chance that Day Zero can occur again, something we discussed earlier this week in another blog.
The Smart Water Zone was created for Future Resource 2019. The market’s leading water efficiency businesses will be showing off their products that can not only make your business run more efficiently, but also save you money. Sign up for your free tickets by following the link at the top of the page and secure your attendance at the Future Resource Expo at the NEC, Birmingham on the 11th and 12th September.
